NPK 18-4-18 is a compound fertilizer with high nitrogen, high potassium and low phosphorus. The effective contents of nitrogen (N), phosphorus  and potassium are 18%, 4% and 18% respectively. Nitrogen element mostly exists in the form of ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen or amide nitrogen, which is the core element for plant growth; Phosphorus is mainly water-soluble or citric acid - soluble phosphorus, which is involved in energy metabolism and cell synthesis; Potassium is provided in the form of potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, etc., which is crucial to plant stress resistance and quality formation. The nutrient ratio of this fertilizer is specially designed for crops that need more nitrogen and potassium but medium phosphorus, and it is suitable for various soils and crop growth periods.
This kind of fertilizer has many advantages. The nutrient ratio is scientific. The combination of high nitrogen and high potassium can meet the needs of plant vegetative growth and reproductive growth at the same time. The low phosphorus content can avoid the accumulation of soil phosphorus and reduce resource waste. It has a wide range of applications and can be used for fruit trees, vegetables, cash crops, flowers, etc., especially suitable for crops in the fruiting and fruit expansion stages, which can promote fruit expansion and improve quality. The application method is flexible. It can be used as base fertilizer or topdressing. Some granular products can also be used for foliar spraying to meet the fertilization needs of different growth periods. At the same time, high potassium content can enhance the stress resistance of crops, and nitrogen ensures the efficiency of leaf photosynthesis. The two work together to improve the commodity of agricultural products.

In terms of function, nitrogen can promote the growth of plant stems and leaves, make the leaves luxuriant and green, and provide sufficient "raw materials" for photosynthesis; Potassium, when applied during the flowering and fruiting period of crops, can promote fruit expansion and full grains, reduce flower and fruit dropping, and also regulate cell osmotic pressure to prevent fruit cracking. Although the content of phosphorus is low, it can participate in energy transfer, assist the absorption and utilization of nitrogen and potassium, and avoid growth stagnation. Reasonable application can balance soil nutrients, avoid "nutrient deficiency symptoms" and maintain normal physiological metabolism of crops.
However, there are some precautions for use. Excessive application should be avoided, otherwise high nitrogen may lead to excessive growth of crops and late maturity due to over - greening, and high potassium may antagonize with calcium, magnesium and other elements to cause nutrient deficiency problems. Sandy soil needs to be applied in small amounts for many times to avoid nutrient loss; Acidic soil can be adjusted with alkaline fertilizers to adjust the pH value. For crops with high phosphorus demand, they need to be used together with phosphate fertilizers to make up for the shortage of low phosphorus.
